Board Members

Steven Roten   Artistic Director

 

Steven Roten is a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association. Along with serving as the Stillwater Theatre Company Artistic Director, Steven is the Director of the Theatre program at Meredith College. He is also a member of New River Dramatists, a company that exists solely for the development of new plays. Some of his recent TV and film credits include, Nashville, Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill and the independent film Long and Winding. Theatre credits include Veronica Vavoom: Volcanologist in NYC, Beautiful Star, August Snow, Baby with the Bathwater, and Suddenly Last Summer (Triad Stage), Jack Burden in All The King’s Men (directed by Adrian Hall) Good, Lipstick Traces, Way To Heaven (Burning Coal), and Malvolio in Twelfth Night at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre.


Most recent directing credits include The Clean House, Machinal, The Tempest, and How I learned To Drive for Meredith Ensemble Theatre, and Ether Steeds, The Grinning Man, and Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend for Stillwater Theatre. Steven’s favorite role is being one proud papa to Annabelle, his brightest star.

Julie-Kate Cooper   Managing Director

 

Julie-Kate is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Meredith College with a B.A. in Theatre and a K-12 teaching license.

During college she worked on productions with local companies and youth theatre companies, while also performing and designing as a student at Meredith. She was nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Award for her role as Prospera in an adaptation of The Tempest and the Barbizon Costume Design Award for her design for Intimate Apparel.

After college she worked in Arts Administration and assistant directing for Lexington Children’s Theatre in Kentucky. Happy to return home, she is now the Managing Director for Stillwater Theatre Company and began teaching at a local high school in the fall of 2013. She most recently directed a stage adaptation of her favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice.

This year Julie-Kate will be teaching, directing, and marrying the most wonderful man, Joey.

Rebecca Bailey

 

Dr. Rebecca Bailey received her PhD form Michigan State University in Interdisciplinary Studies that included the areas of Visual Art, Theatre and Textiles and Clothing. She was appointed Dean of the School of the Arts at Meredith College in 2003 after serving as the Head of the Department of Art for 10 years. Following the merging of the Schools of Arts and Humanities in 2010, she again became Art Department Head. Rebecca retired in June 2011. During Fall Semester, 2011, she was the resident faculty director for the Meredith College campus in Italy.

 

Bailey served as the Southeastern Region National Vice-President for the National Art Education Association for two consecutive terms, is a Past vice-President and President of the North Carolina Art Education Association and was honored as Outstanding Art Educator of the Year in North Carolina. Bailey has served as a consultant to the Education Department of the North Carolina Museum of Art for over 30 years. She was a writer on two North Carolina Standard Courses of Study in Visual Arts and a reviewer for the current Essential Standards. During Fall Semester, 2010, Rebecca had time reassigned to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction so that she could facilitate the work of the S66 Task Force, a group assembled at the request of the Legislature to create a comprehensive Arts Education plan for the state.

 

Rebecca is an active supporter of the International Study Programs for Meredith students and has led numerous tours to Italy to acquaint Meredith alums and friends of Meredith with the Sansepolcro campus. She enjoys documenting her travels with photography. She has designed costumes for three Stillwater Theatre productions and is proud to be a board member.

Kristin McCormick

 

Kristin McCormick is the Theatre Director at Cary High School. She is a 2003 Meredith College graduate, wife to Patrick, and mother of a 5 year old named Mackenzie. Kristin was a Top Twelve Finalist for "Wake County Teacher of the Year" in 2012. Kristin has also created a thriving IMPROV program at Cary High, which performs seven times a year and performs for various other schools and organizations. They are currently working on the first county-wide IMPROV-OLYMIPICS for high school students. She is thrilled to be a part of Stillwater and looks forward to new adventures on the stage and the page!
 

Dan Oliver

Dan is a writer/producer/director for Horizon Productions in Durham. Triangle theater appearances include Picasso at the Lapin Agile, 10 X 10 and various PlaySlams at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, Shadowlands and Sister Mary Ignatius at REP, and Celebration with Little Green Pig.
